Hawzah News Agency- Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Attar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from his father, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad, from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, from Muhammad ibn Khalid, from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ari, from Abu Ishaq, tracing it back to Imam Sajjad (pbuh) that Imam Ali (pbuh) said:
لِلْمُسْرِفِ ثَلَاثُ عَلَامَاتٍ یَأْکُلُ مَا لَیْسَ لَهُ وَ یَلْبَسُ مَا لَیْسَ لَهُ وَ یَشْتَرِی مَا لَیْسَ لَهُ.
The extravagant person (Musrif) has three signs: he eats what is not for him, he wears what is not for him, and he buys what is not for him.[1]
[1]Note: The meaning is that he exceeds his limits; he eats and wears what is above his status/means, and he purchases goods that are inappropriate for him to buy.
